Over 5,000 Rosneft Volunteers Donate Blood in 2022

20 April 2023

Russia celebrates National Blood Donor Day* on 20 April. This day is dedicated to people who donate their blood to benefit the lives and health of others. In 2022, more than 5,000 Rosneft employees participated in the donor movement; 155 of them have the title of Honorary Donor of Russia ‑and have donated blood more than 40 times.

Rosneft encourages and supports donations in line with the principles of high social responsibility. For more than 10 years, the Company’s enterprises have been organising donor days, attracting thousands of employees each year.

Around 200 oil workers are currently involved in the Samotlorneftegaz donor movement. More than 50 Samotlor employees hold the title of Honorary Donor of Russia, including one of the country’s youngest Honorary Donors, 24-year-old Nikolay Perfiliev. He first donated blood at the age of 18. To date, he has donated blood and blood components 55 times.

More than 60 Orenburgneft employees donated blood at the Buzuluk blood transfusion centre this year. The centre’s medical staff led students from Rosneft classes in Buzuluk on a tour of the «donor’s path», during which the children learned about the donation process, blood composition, technology for freezing and storing blood components. As a result, the students found out their blood type and expressed their wish to become donors in the future.

The donor movement is growing in the Company’s subsidiaries in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra. At RN-Yuganskneftegaz, for example, more than 1,000 oil workers donated blood in 2022. RN-Nyaganneftegas employees have become the most active donors in the city. According to last year’s results, the oil workers are one of the leading companies in Nyagan in terms of the number of donations.

Bashneft employees have been actively participating in donor events for many years. In 2019, the employees were awarded the medal of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency «For Contribution to the Donor Movement». Ufaorgsintez employee Albert Enikeyev is one of the Company’s record-breakers – he has donated blood 117 times, which equates to more than 350 potentially saved lives.

More than 100 litres of blood are donated to the Samara Region Blood Bank each year by employees of the Novokuibyshevsk refinery. Last year, many of the refinery’s volunteers became bone marrow donors for the first time and were added to the National Bone Marrow Donor Registry**. SamaraNIPIneft also holds regular donor days at the institute. Nearly 100 employees participated this year.

At the Syzran refinery, more than 40 people are Honorary Donors of Russia, and many are approaching this milestone.

The Angarsk Petrochemical Company has a long tradition of donor movement – 1,300 employees are donors. More than 300 donors work at the Achinsk refinery. One in eight of the refinery’s employees regularly donates to blood banks in the Achinsk and Krasnoyarsk region.

The employees of the Komsomolsk refinery‑ are among the most active donors in Komsomolsk-on-Amur: 25 employees are Honorary Donors of Russia.

The RN-Burenie, RN-Card, RN-Shelf-Arctic and RN Exploration subsidiaries joined forces and held a joint donor event in Moscow, which was attended by more than 70 people, many of whom were donating blood for the first time.

Rosneft’s volunteer community continues to grow, demonstrating its commitment to good causes each year.

Note for Editors:

*National Blood Donor Day was established in Russia in 2007 to commemorate the first successful blood transfusion, which took place in St Petersburg on 20 April 1832.

**The Vasya Perevoshchikov National Bone Marrow Donor Registry is a Russian charity that was set up to help patients in need of a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor.

The word «donor» comes from the Latin verb «donare», which means «to give». Donating is also good for the donor – it helps prevent many diseases, including those of the immune system. In addition, donating blood improves your emotional well-being and stimulates the body’s own renewal by stimulating haematopoiesis.
